Thinking
about a Vacation
No doubt the signs of spring have had
their affect on you. Initially, getting outdoors is the obvious thing to do. We
start by poking around the garden, working on the lawn, attending softball
practice, dusting of the gas grill.
Beneath it all we sense that vacation
time is near. This pleases everyone. It doesn’t matter whether we are planning
an elaborate vacation or will simply enjoy the company of our family at home-
the feeling is the same. So you need a vacation fund.
If we’ve planned properly, chances are
that some of our hard earned dollars have been set aside for this occasion. We
recognize that if we plan to spend money in the pursuit of enjoyment, the
ordinary fixed expenses mortgage, utilities, ect. must still be paid. So you
need a vacation fund.
All of this makes good sense. The
soundness of the Idea is obvious. Isn’t it amazing that so many of us see the
wisdom of planning for our vacations each summer, but fail to plan our long
time range vacation retirement. The Knights of Columbus has thought about it
and planned a retirement fund for you. The only one left is you…it’s time you
thought about it. Find out how you can add to government and employer programs
an amount sufficient to provide for you and yours. After all, retirement is the
longest vacation you’ll ever take. Call me today and we’ll plan it together.

Alter Servers
Alter
Server Coordinator Stacy Reed reported that the Fair Ride tickets we presented
them for their service drew the largest crowd they have had at one of their events. Thanks!
Father Vincent’s Appreciation
Gift
Father
Vincent was presented with a beautiful clock engraved to memorialize his
service to us as Pastor and Chaplin at the May regular business meeting. Thanks
again Father!
CYLA Winners
Our
CYLA Winners for this year have been presented with their $200 Awards and have
been honored at the Founders Day Banquet! They have since graduated from high
school and are pursuing their education. Kimberly Holmes plans to become a
Pediatric Nurse and Jacob Busby will pursue a career in Law Enforcement!
Congratulation to them both!
BINGO NEEDS HELP
We are in need of help with Bingo.
Initially we started off with two teams consisting of ten (10) to twelve
(12) members and it has now been reduced to four (4) to five (5) members. These few members show up constantly to do
the work necessary; however; it is very hard on these regular working members
to run the bingo without further help.
We have deposited approximately $12,750.00 since the first of 2009. We
would like to reestablish two teams of ten to twelve and since we have cut down
to two bingo nights a month, this would mean each team would work one night a
month.
I
would also like to mention the importance of bingo as income for the council
which helps take place of Christmas trees which is so much more manpower
consuming. The manpower of Christmas
tree sales took approximately eight hundred fifty (850) man hours and all we
are asking now is two nights a month which is a total of 5 hours per night per
man.
The
ones who can not work bingo are asked to come up with other fund raisers to
help pay the bills. PLEASE, don’t be
shy; get involved with the council activities. The bingo hall is not as smoky
as it used to be. Come out and get a meal and help generate operating funds for
the council.

New Video Bingo needs
workers!
Call
Curtis Jones to help with our new fundraiser Video Bingo. We originally thought
that this program would not require our manpower but laws were changed and now
we are required to have one on site person during the sessions. This job is
very easy and the hall located in the old Gideon’s Furniture Building at Tower
Drive and Florida Ave. in Denham Springs. The sessions are in the afternoon and
evening. Bring reading material or watch TV most of the time.
Retired
Guys this is where we really need you!! Please try it out!

We

Chairman. If you have a recipe that you
would like included please send it to Dguidry@dps.state.la.us
or Dean Guidry ,
Columbian Squires
Thanks
to Squires for their help in Soccer Challenge. Congratulations to our Squire
Vincent S. Duhon for being selected Squire of the Year 2008!
New Council Home
Remember
that members can use the home at a nominal cost. Please check the property when
you pass it. Ask trespassing kids to leave, we are not insured as a public
park.
We
installed the new storage shed behind the council home.
Dues
A
message from your Financial Secretary: Are you behind on your dues? It costs
the council when you don’t pay your dues because we have to pay per-capita tax
to the National Council for each member. Please mail your dues ($36 per year)
to P.O. Box 1043 or bring them to a meeting. Do not drop them off at the Church
office as this causes unnecessary trips and sorting of the large amount of mail
and messages that the Church receives.
Remember to consult the Grand Knight if you have financial difficulty or
are a student or are active military.
Charities
Our
council does not just have “charity” as a slogan. We live it. We have a
Charitable Screening Committee that meets with people who are asking for
assistance and tries to verify their needs and assist them with help, advice
and contacts. They review the available information and recommend action to the
Council at the regular business meetings. Work on this committee is truly a
mission from God. Please consider joining this committee or helping at Bingo so
that we can continue this important work.
