Mentors Needed
By Fairfax County Police Department, April 2002

Back in November 1997, a public-private partnership called the Fairfax Partnership for Youth was formed.  The organization was chartered both by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and the Fairfax County School Board and set out a two-fold aim: to reduce youth violence and promote positive youth development.  Currently, the Fairfax Partnership for Youth sponsors six major efforts, one of which is our mentoring initiative.

Our mentoring initiative, known as the Fairfax Mentoring Partnership, supports mentoring activities countywide.  We not only train and recruit mentors, but we work to strengthen each mentoring program, through education and support.

Our biggest need, however, is recruitment.  We would greatly appreciate it if Westlawn residents would consider becoming mentors.  We find that, from time to time, individuals step forward once they are made aware of the need, and once they realize that their commitment can be for as little as 30 minutes per week.

So, please, consider lending a hand.  For more information, please contact Kim Monti at 703-324-5554 or send her an e-mail at kim.monti@fairfaxcounty.gov.  The children of Fairfax County will benefit, as will our entire community.
