If you have used furniture or an adult bicycle that you want to get rid of and it is still functional, please donate it to a local charity to help out the needy around our area. With just one phone call, you can arrange for a local charity to pick up your items and deliver them to a family in need.

Cleaning out the attic? Tossing out toys? Changing mattresses? Think twice before you put that “junk” out for pick-up on Wednesday night. Instead, recycle it to benefit neighbors in need and help keep our local environment clean. Here are a half dozen Falls Church service organizations that gladly accept clean, usable discards, turn them into treasure, and provide you with a tax deduction. Each organization has specific needs and some will even pick up large items so please call before you donate!

Description: A coalition of 16 churches and human service organizations in the greater Falls Church area providing a variety of short-term and emergency services to individuals and families in our neighborhoods. Accepts pantry items, furniture, and household goods. Volunteers will pick up furniture on Saturdays by prior arrangement and deliver it to those in need. (We found the Saturday pick-up service very helpful and no lifting was required of us!)

Description: A 42 bed shelter providing a range of services to families. Donated items are given directly to people who need them. Accepts household goods, toys, clothing, baby items, and furniture. Prefers that items be brought to the shelter from 9-5 on weekdays when staff is available to assist but weekend arrangements can be made. (We’ve donated kid stuff here many times. Call ahead as a courtesy to busy staff.)

Description: With 16,000 square feet of warehouse space, this place is equipped to receive your largest items including new and used building materials, lumber, new and gently used kitchen and other appliances, and home improvement items. Also accepts electrical and plumbing supplies, electronics, carpet, tile, cabinets, windows, doors, countertops and more! Donated items are resold to the public, and the proceeds are used by Habitat for Humanity to support the construction of modest, safe homes for families in need.
