Recycling Yard Debris
By Dave Conway, February 1999

Every year between April 1 and December 24, Fairfax County waste collection haulers pick up yard debris separate from regular trash.  Yard debris consists of bags filled with grass clippings, hedge trimmings, leaves, and small plants such as weeds.

Brush such as tree branches must be piled up separate from other trash or yard debris and must be called in for special pick-up (703-802-3322).  Westlawn residents are fortunate to have curbside leaf pick-up at no extra charge, so we don't have a lot of yard debris bags filled with leaves.

Please refrain from placing any regular trash in bags that contain yard debris.  Likewise, you can help keep down the size of our landfills by bagging yard debris separate from regular trash.  When it comes time to put your trash out on the curb, it is a good idea to place the regular trash apart from any bags with yard debris.

For information on general recycling programs or requirements, call the County's Recycling Office at 703-324-5436, M-F, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
