Federal Realty, the owners of Loehmann's Plaza Shopping Center, has accelerated plans to refurbish the buildings and bring in new tenants, including a Giant grocery store.  Instead of late 2008 as the target date for the opening of the Giant store, the new date is early summer 2007!

An artist's concept of the new site plan is available on our Westlawn website.  The Loehmann's store is going to move to the location where Linens 'N Things and Trak Auto used to occupy.  You can see that the building is being renovated from the CVS store to the end of the building to make room for the Loehmann's store.  The good news here is that Loehmann's gets to stay at Loehmann's Plaza, and in a newly refurbished building!

By end of July, Federal Realty expects that canopy renovation will be completed on the building with the 7-Eleven and the adjacent building with Celebrity Deli.  Canopy renovation will then begin on the Bally's building in mid July and should be completed by the end of September.  The last building is the one with Scan, which should be complete by 1 November 2006.

The site work for Giant will be ongoing through this same time frame of May to November 2006.  Giant will occupy a new building that will be constructed on the site where the Loehmann's store is currently located.  Federal Realty expects Giant to start their building work late this year or early 2007.  So far, Giant is tracking to open before 4 July 2007.

A few people have been asking if there will be a Starbucks at the property.  Currently, Giant is proposing to have a barista within their store, either Starbucks or Green Mountain.  Federal Realty's leasing group is also looking into providing additional coffee services/tenants.
