Cast of Characters

The following people show up frequently in my 1997 diary. In alphabetical order, they are:

  • Barbara. Jay Nash's wife. Also, Barbara Lanci, former manager of channel programs at Kofax.
  • Dave. Dave Thiessen, an old friend who I met while I was working at Radio Shack during college. We were roommates for a few years in the early 80s. Married to Eileen. (Note: can also refer to Dave Dvorman, an ex-Kofax programmer who I play tennis with once a week.)
  • David. Most likely refers to David Silver, president and co-founder of Kofax Image Products. My former boss. Doesn't like being called Dave.
  • Dean. Former VP of Engineering and co-founder of Kofax.
  • Eileen. Dave Thiessen's wife. Teaches ESL classes in the Irvine School District.
  • Ginny. Marian's younger sister.
  • Harry. Marian's father, Harry Riegel, a retired doctor.
  • Heidi. Marc Siegall's wife. Teaches third grade in the same school district as her father.
  • Irma. Marian's mother, Irma Riegel.
  • Jamie. Dave and Eileen's daughter, now 14. Jamie was a flower girl at my wedding.
  • Jay. Another old friend from my Radio Shack days, now a network consultant. Married to Barbara.
  • Karen. My sister, Karen Drum. Karen is a couple of years older than me and does publications for the Orange County Performing Arts Center.
  • Marc. Old friend, used to live in Orange County, moved to Chicago to get a PhD at Northwestern in organizational behavior. Now associate dean of the business school at Cal State Chico. Best man at my wedding. Married to Heidi.
  • Marian. My wife, formerly Marian Riegel. We met at Emulex Corporation, where we both worked until 1992, and were married in 1991.
  • Melinda. Rick Tyler's wife. An aspiring actress who met Rick in high school, ditched him, and then came to her senses and finally agreed to marry him.
  • Mom. My mother. Still living in Garden Grove in the house I grew up in. Retired recently from her job teaching gifted fourth graders and now teaches ESL.
  • Rick. Usually refers to Rick Tyler, yet another old friend from Radio Shack. Now works as director of marketing at RAF, a vendor of forms processing software. (Note: can also refer to Rick Murphy, general manager of the IP business unit at Kofax.)
  • Steve. Usually Steve Drum, my younger brother by a couple of years. He is an instructor in the Physics department at Concordia College and is finishing work on his PhD dissertation. We see each other rarely.
