LG
Cell Phone "Car Kit" Error Message
I
asked my wife yesterday afternoon why she didn't have her phone on, she said
that it was on. I checked it, there was a message across
the screen that I had never seen before, the words "Car Kit" was
displayed. I could
not call out or receive any calls, the phone wouldn't ring when called, but all
menu items were available. At first I thought that she had switched into some
odd mode by accident. After going through all setup menus it appeared that
there was no "Car Kit" mode. I have not mentioned the
model LG phone model number because this error can appear across several model
LG phones. I went through the entire LG manual, no mention of car kit mode
error anywhere. After doing a Google search I found out that this can be an
indication the unit has been exposed to moisture. One person mentioned about
the indicator decal under the contact end of the battery. It is black when new
and turns purple when exposed to water. Both my wife's dead phone and my good
phone were both purple indicating moisture exposure, could it be the Southern
humidity? Using multiple suggestions found in the below links, I was able to
get her phone back to a normal working mode. I tried a couple suggestions
twice, so I can't say which one made the difference. I tried plugging and
unplugging the charger cable several times, I cleaned the contacts at the
charger connector with contact cleaner, an emery board and repeatedly dried it
out with caned air. After performing all of those tries, using a metal nail
file, I briefly shorted between a couple of contacts near the left side of the
connector, she switched over the normal mode and now works good.
