M.F.A. degrees vary widely in credit requirements and focus.  Mine was a three-year terminal degree program requiring both creative and academic coursework, a thesis, and emphasizing practical teaching experience.  Coursework included workshops in Fiction, Poetry, Prose Poetry, Creative Nonfiction; Courses in Literature (Medieval, American, 20th Century), English Syntax, Narrative Theory, College Pedagogy, Spanish Language.
