Literary Journal Links and Submission Information
I'll eventually add more to this page, but for now I'm simply posting a list
of literary journals and e-zines where prose writers can submit unsolicited
work. While there are other lists like this on the web, this is the only
one I know of that offers links directly to the ‘Submission Guidelines’ page
of particular journals. I’ve
included a few notes about restrictions on simultaneous submissions (welcome –
OK; not welcome – NO; discouraged - DIS), reading periods, upper-length page
or word limits, along with basic information as to whether a journal offers an
electronic submission option and if it is published online. Ideally, it
would be nice to offer a report on turnaround times (as experienced by
submitters rather than as promised by journals—particularly for those that
disallow simultaneous submissions), but I don’t yet know how to design
interactive features on web pages. I’ve intended this as a starting
place—a way for writers to begin exploring some options for a particular
story. Please do not rely
exclusively on this list—there are lots of other journals out there. Plus, in these days of
many writers and few readers, journals seem to come and go with the wind.
I have not included venues devoted exclusively to poetry.
Also journals frequently change their guidelines and reading periods, so
check the official pages before submitting.
If you do notice erroneous information or bad links on this page, please
let me know and I’ll make changes.
