The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
Since the American Cancer Society formed in 1913, we've dedicated our work to one mission: eliminating cancer. Our work focuses on four areas:
Research to find a cure.
Helping prevent cancer through education
Supporting legislation to reduce cancer's impact.
Assisting cancer patients and their families
Through this plan of work, we hope to double the number of lives saved by the year 2015, keep more Americans than ever from getting cancer in the first place, and increase the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. Our volunteers, staff partners, and the Relay For Life participants work hand-in-hand to make this mission a reality.
