Klingons:  Humanoid warrior race, originally from the planet Qo'noS.  A proud, tradition-bound people who value honor, the aggressive Klingon culture has made them a military power to be respected and feared.  In Klingon society, the death of a warrior is not mourned, especially a warrior who has died honorably, as in battle or the line of duty.  Klingon tradition holds that "the son of a Klingon is a man the day he can first hold a blade."  A spaceborne culture, the Klingon Empire has a wide variety of spacecraft used for its defense and commerce.  The Klingon body incorporates multiple redundancies for nearly all vital bodily functions. A Klingon possesses two livers, eight heart chambers and 23 ribs.  This characteristic, known as brak'lul, gives Klingon warriors enormous resiliency in battle.

Klingon Empire:  The Klingon nation, founded some 1,500 years ago by Kahless the Unforgettable, who first united the Klingon people by killing the tyrant, Molor.

First contact between the Klingon Empire and the Federation took place in 2218, a disastrous event that led to nearly a century of hostilities between the two powers.  In 2267 negotiations between the Federation the Klingon Empire were on the verge of breaking down.  The Klingons had issued an ultimatum to the Federation to withdraw from disputed areas claimed by the Federation and the Klingon Empire or face war.  The hostilities came to a head at planet Organia, the only class-M planet in the area.  Unknown to either combatant, the Organians were incredibly advanced noncorporeal (literally, without bodies) life-forms who imposed the Organian Peace Treaty on both parties, thus effectively ending armed hostilities.

Klingon Homeworld:  The central planet of the Klingon Empire.  A large, green, class-M world, the Homeworld was rarely referred to by it formal name, Qo'noS (pronounced kronos).

Klingon High Council:  Ruling body of the Klingon Empire.  The council was composed of about two dozen members and met in the Great Hall of the First City of Klingon Homeworld. The High Council has a long history of political intrigue and power struggles.  In 2293 we find Klingon chancellor Gorkon as leader, and his daughter Azetbur succeeds him when her father is murdered by a faction of Federation and Klingon interests who sought to break up the Khitomer Peace conference.  Then, K'mpec was the leader until he died of poison in 2367.  Gowron emerged as leader after a brief civil war in 2368.
