SN Edmund Henry Frenya, USN
MIA since 1/22/66

Will someone please come and free me?

Now here is all about me - Edmund Henry Frenyea, born May 24, 1930 in Ukiah, CA. I was an E-3 in the US Navy, serving my country during wartime, in North Vietnam on January 22, 1966. As a member of Anti- Submarine Squadron 35 on the USS HORNET (CVA-12), I was on a nightly, routine search mission providing squadron air cover; a crewmember of a STOOF (S2D) sent to investigate an unidentified bogie. Five minutes before our plane was scheduled to return to the HORNET it was lost from radar and never heard from again. Our last known location was in the Gulf of Tonkin about halfway between the coastal city of Thanh Hoa, North Vietnam and the Chinese island of Hai Nan (about 30 miles from the island). A few hours later an aircraft was reported shot down near Bach Long Vi Island, North Vietnam. On February 1, 1966 one of our rafts was found and on March 14, 1966 a crewman's helmet was found. Myself and my 3 crewmates were never found. We (I) were listed as MIA (Missing In Action) and in 1975, a "finding of death" was made on us (me). Now at age 71 (soon 72), I still want my Freedom, we still want our Freedom. I am still here. Secure my Freedom along with all my fellow POWs and MIAs. I (we) need to be returned to our families, returned to the USA, Now!!!!!!!

National Pow/Mia Recognition Day Sept. 20, 2002

Why has my country forgotten me?
Lord Please, give me strength to know that they have
not forgotten me!  Help me to understand a country
that I gave my all too, and they in return look the
other way?     WHY Lord??    WHY Lord??
Why am I here?  Will I ever go home?
Will the chains ever come off??
WHY Lord,  WHY??
