The Borg are an immensely powerful civilization of
humaniods from the Delta Quadant of our galaxy. Each Borg is equipped with
cybernetic devices that give them different, technological and combat
capabilities which combine into the Borg Collective. A sophisticated
subspace network links this collective together to insure constant supervision
and guidance. Each Borg is highly intelligent and adaptable. Borg operate
by conguering entire worlds, assimilating the civilizations nd technology
thereon. The first known contact between the Borg and the Federation
was in 2365, when Q (an immensely powerful extradimendional entity) transported
the Enterprise-D out of Federation space into the flight path of a Borg vessel
heading toward the Alpha Quadrant (where Earth is located). By sometimes
travelling through transwarp conduits, they can travel up to 20 times faster
than normal warp speeds.

Picutured above is a huge
CUBE-shaped spacecraft operated by the collective.
It has a highly decentralized design, and Enterprise-D personnel reported
finding no specific bridge, engineering, or living areas. These ships
are equipped with powerful energy weapons and are usaually capable of repairing
major damage almost immediately, including the impact of direct phaser hits.
A small Borg SPHERE capable of creating
a temporal vortex [time-spanning conduit created by the controlled emission
of chronometric particles (subatomic particles that transmit temporal quanta)]
is a timeship launched from a special bay on larger ships. Borg also have
a small scout ship that is 2.5 metric tons that has a crew of 5.

This is the Borg
QUEEN, who is played by Alice
Krige; who is the Central locus of the Borg Collective. She brings order
to the multitude of voices within the Borg shared consciousness. Being the
"one who was many," she embodied elements of individuality as well as being
the central node in vast group mind. Wanting a human being with a mind of
his own who could bridge the gulf between humanity and the Borg; she assimilated
Captain Jean-Luc Picard (in 2366), who became Locutus (see pic at top of
page). Picard did not work out, so she tried to seduce Lieutenant Commander
Data in 2373 (while on U.S.S. Enterprise-E; by giving him oraganic components
and appealing to his emotions. Her and all the Borg with her were killed
when Data used plasma coolant to liquefy their organic components. (Note: this all happened during Star Trek: First Contact). |
