Welcome to Borzoi on Konza Prairie - Since 1995

Hello, my name is Kay Cassella (McMillin). I'm a Licensed Social Worker and have been working with frail senior citizens for 10 years. Borzoi on Konza Prairie is a small hobby kennel located in Manhattan, Kansas (the little apple) just northwest of Konza Prairie Research. Welcome to my web site. I hope you will enjoy the stories about my beloved Borzoi. They all live inside with the family and are rotated to and from an in & outdoor kennel/yard that is temperature controlled during extreme climate. They are always owner-handled.

I  breed Borzoi seldomly. If you have inquiries, I can assist with breeder referral.

History

Philosophy

I started with AKC competition with a Dalmatian I purchased in the summer of 1989 from the newspaper for $25 (I do not recommend this). We earned an AKC Companion Dog (CD) title and worked toward our Companion Dog Excellence (CDX) but never earned a leg. She managed to disqualify at every trial and I figured after 2 years trying, she convinced me that we should retire.

In 1990 my first show dog was a German Shorthaired Pointer bred by my dear friend, Lucretia Coonrod (ken-point GSP) Major Pointed Kan-Point Hearts Are Wild, CDX aka Addie, (Addie parents: Ch. Bleugras Kan-Point Wildcard  X  Ch. Hi-D Hy Huntabird). Addie gave me every excuse to go to AKC shows and I became hooked. She had a big heart to please and I am grateful and blessed.

I acquired my first borzoi, Misty, from James Sillers, DVM in 1995. She was thirteen months old. Like a revelation, I knew the borzoi was to become my passion.

I enjoy handling and showing my own dogs. I like the traveling, the cherished memories and most of all the camaraderie with friends who have the passion for our wonderful Borzoi.

Our dogs are not only “show dogs,” they are first and foremost our beloved pets. When a breeding is planned, my goal is to produce offspring according to the Borzoi Standard that will be structurally sound, healthy and have great temperaments. Puppies are raised in the home and
are socialized with other people and dogs.
