Still Need to Shop for the Kiddies? Stay Away from These
I was browsing a message board that I frequent practically every day and came across this link: 10 MOST DANGEROUS TOYS OF ALL TIME. This is a list of some of the most ill-conceived play things ever to hit the market. From lawn darts to dolls, these prodcuts will shock and amaze you. And, if you're like me, you might be thinking that all of the toys would be from the 50s or 60s...well, there were many more recent toys than I would have imagined.

In light of the apparent news that the SIX FLAGS CORPORATION is apparently disassembling some of the rides at the park in New Orleans, I felt it appropriate to feature some of the rides that were found at the infant park.

This is a picture of a new ride to the park: Jester. This steel coaster came to the park for the 2003 season from San Antonio. The ride actually sent riders around the track backwards at 40mph.

I Got Mine!
OK, I know that we're all still pretty disappointed with the Saints' performance this past Sunday against the Washington Redskins; and I know for sure that Coach Payton, the entire staff and all the players are not satisfied with just winning the team's first NFC South Division Championship and third division title ever.

That being said...I'm still psyched as ever about this season. I said at the beginning of the year that I would be happy with ANY improvement over last year...that would mean 4 wins or more. well, the Saints have already TRIPLED their wins from last year.

Being a Saints fan, there haven't been many moments and accomplishments to relish...this is DEFINITELY one of them. So I was at the MALL OF LOUISIANA last night when the shirt you see to the right caught my eye. I HAD to have it. This is only the third such opportunity that Saints fans have ever had...so I bought one.

As you can see, it prominently features the black and gold Fleur de Leis, the slogan for SUPERBOWL XLI: One Game. One Dream.

Or in the case of the New Orleans Saints faithful: One Game. Millions of Dreams.

This is a picture of the park's signature ride: Mega Zeph (which takes its name from the old Zephyr coaster once found at Pontchartrain Beach). This wooden track, steel structure coaster gave riders a jolting ride at speeds up to 57mph. I, for one, will miss it.

Saints Keep Marching
Well, as you all know, the Saints keep marching through the season with a 9-4 record and only 3 games remaining on the season. This Sunday, in the Superdome, the team can clinch a playoff spot with a win over the Washington Redskins. Along with the playoffs spot, the Saints would be the 2006 NFC South Champions - a feat which no one in their right mind would have predicted last December.

As an added bonus to the loyal Saints fans, the win would also guarantee at least one home playoff game (whether it is in the first round against a wild-card team or in the 2nd round after a week off for being the 1st or 2nd overall team in the NFC). So, let's keep on rolling, keep our winning streak going and shoot for a 12-4 season!

Today's coaster features perhaps the most unique lift system in the coaster world. As you look at the picture, you see the statue of the weird little man with bat wings; behind him, you can see a set of posts rising up in front of the loading station. At the top of the poles, you can see the actual ride vehicles. Guests board the bicycle-like seats, are then strapped in, then elevated to the top of the poles where they begin their gravity-powered descent down the track. Very unique...but also very tame.

Christmas Cometh Early for the Colonels
Today, NICHOLLS STATE announced a generous - and perhaps the most significant - donation to the school's football program. Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Archie Manning, through his partnership with AstroTurf, announced the donation of a new playing surface for John L. Guidry Stadium. The field, valued at $500,000, will be installed before the Manning Passing Academy begins its third season in Thibodaux.

However, the playing surface is nothing like the old AstroTurf field that was in the Superdome for years. The new versions of AstroTurf are similar to the new surface in the Superdome. The new technology AstroTurf fields are now in use by Ole Miss, the Buffalo Bills of the NFL and the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga (which hosts the NCAA Division I National Football Championship on ESPN this Friday night).

This announcement tells me that the Mannings are committed to hosting the camp in Thibodaux for many years to come! And what are the Mannings and AstroTurf getting in return? Good question...something very simple...a name. The John L. Guidry Stadium will now be known as:
Manning Field Presented By AstroTurf at John L. Guidry Stadium

Personally, I think this is INCREDIBLY good news. This corrects the problem of a poor playing surface that Nicholls has had for years (it's like playing in a swamp when the field is wet). Also, this will definitely help in recruiting in the coming years as well as further regional and national exposure from the Manning Passing Academy. Thank you Archie Manning & AstroTurf...true Saints!

News of the Day
Instead of a coaster, I felt it appropriate to post a picture of a stadium in which an AstroTurf manufactured field is in use. This is Vaught-Hemingway Stadium at the University of Mississippi (aka Ole Miss) which just added the new surface recently as part of a significant stadium expansion project. This gives you an idea of the type of field we'll see in Guidry Stadium from here on out!

First a Leprechaun, Now This?
This is getting out of hand. First, a mythical leprechaun has been sighted in southern Alabama. Now, there's a new report on YOUTUBE about a Mexican hiding out by a fence! CLICK HERE!

OK, so it's just a parody of the leprechaun news report, but it's pretty darn funny and matches the leprechaun report, interview for interview. If you liked the other report...don't miss this one. But you can ignore the terrible "anchor team" at the beginning and end of the video. They're not so bad at the beginning, but the end is just completely stupid and pointless. Enjoy!

Today's coaster comes to us from The Land of the Rising Sun - Japan. While there is nothing particularly special about the coaster (typical steel sit-down ride reaching a top speed of 41mph), I thought that the image of the coaster and the log ride makes for a nice picture.

You Saw a WHAT?
Question: Do you know what kind of creature that is on the right? Chances are, most of you know exactly what that is.

That's right, a leprechaun - the most famous and recognizable of Irish folklore creatures. These "little men" are said to be very rich and are assumed to always be guarding a pot of gold. Legend has it that the location of their gold can only be revealed by catching and interrogating the creature.

According to WIKIPEDIA, "...if anyone keeps an eye fixed upon one, he cannot escape, but the moment the eye is withdrawn he vanishes." I find this statement to be extremely interesting.

At this point, I expect both of my readers to be asking, "Why are you talking about leprechauns? It's not even CLOSE to St. Patrick's Day!" Good question. But I think that I owe it to my readers to keep them informed about things that may affect them. Living in the south, I feel that this is "must-know" information.

How come? Well, because of THIS. That's right, a leprechaun has been sighted in Mobile, Alabama! And thanks to the wonder that is YOUTUBE, we can see hillarious news reports such as this one. As a disclaimer...make sure that you have your volume up so you can hear everything in the report. I also recommend viewing the video in full-screen mode. Oh, and make you watch it several times to make sure you don't miss a thing while laughing histerically.

Random Thoughts...
Well, I really don't have anything in particular to talk about...so I guess I'll just give a run-down of a few things I'm thinking about:

• The Saints continue to impress me
IT'S ABOUT TIME Reggie Bush!
• There's a LOT OF PEOPLE UPSET about LSU getting "snubbed" for the Rose Bowl
• Here's a GREAT SITE if anyone is still looking for a present for me...cough, cough mom
• And ANOTHER
• And here's a PRETTY NEAT SITE that Heather pointed me to...thanks sis

That's it...I'm done.

The Wonders of Wikipedia
As I was reading through MY FAVORITE BLOG earlier today, I came across a link for the most famous comic strip of all time - PEANUTS! That's right, Snoopy, Woodstock, Linus, Lucy, Sally, Good Ol' Charlie Brown and the rest of the gang!

The link was the WIKIPEDIA ENTRY FOR CHARLIE BROWN. While it didn't surprise me to see a Wikipedia entry for Charlie Brown - there's an entry for pretty much anything - I did learn many things about the strip that I never knew. Like his parents' occupations: father is a barber; mother is a housewife. Despite only the two little visible curls of hair on Chuck's head, he was meant to have hair. Charles Schulz said that he always saw Charlie Brown as having hair that was so light and short, that it just isn't seen very well. Apparently, Charlie Brown often mentions getting a hair cut in the strip. And Snoopy, everyone's favorite WWI Flying Ace, thinks of Charlie Brown as..."that round-headed kid".

Anyway, I just found the Wikipedia entry to be very interesting and a good way to waste some time. Take a gander.

With today's picture, I give you the current World Record Holder for track length. At 8,133ft 2inches, the ride is over 500ft longer than the 2nd place coaster. Riders go along the more than 1 1/2 mile track at speeds up to 95mph.
