Robert G. “Bob” Booe was born in 1937 as the son of horseshoe pitcher Guy Booe of Humboldt, Kansas. Bob was to become an important figure in the horseshoe pitching world of the northeast corner of Kansas and to the whole area as well. A controller at Midwest Grain Products of Atchison, Bob was responsible for the formation of the Atchison Horseshoe Club, as well as construction of horseshoe courts in Atchison. When these courts had to be moved, Bob again oversaw the moving to their current location in Jackson Park. Bob has served as the tournament director of many tournaments in Atchison and played in many local events over the years. Bob served the Kansas Horseshoe Pitchers Association as its President in 1975 and 1976. He also served the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association as a Regional Director for several years. Bob is also a top flight player and has currently (through 2001) participated in the Championship Class at the State Tournament 26 times since first entering the State Tournament in 1969. Bob topped his fine career after many tries by winning the Kansas State Men’s title in 1998 and again in 1999. He also represented Kansas on several occasions in the World Tournament. Bob began his career by mastering the unusual 2¼ turn shoe, then switching to the 1¼ turn, and finally settling on the 1¾ turn he currently uses. Bob throws the Allen horseshoe. For his long-time service to the sport of horseshoe pitching, serving as state officer, regional director, tournament director, and for his long record in the Kansas State Tournament including two State Men’s Championships, Robert G. “Bob” Booe was elected into the Kansas State Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame in 1993 as a player-promoter. Following is a summary of Bob’s Kansas State Tournament record.
