Born into a large family as the youngest of 13 children, Levi “Vince” Garner was introduced to horseshoe pitching at an early age as it was the main recreation game for the family. Vince carried on the Garner family tradition and began playing in tournaments in Topeka in 1954. Vince captured the seven-county tournament held in Topeka at least five times beginning in 1955. He participated in many local tournaments over the years and was a tough competitor. Since some of the individual records of the 1950s of the Kansas State Tournament are not available, other than who won the State Title, Vince’s complete record cannot be determined. He played in the Championship Class at least six times and finished as high as 3rd place at least twice as best can be determined. Levi “Vince” Garner was elected into the Kansas State Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame in 1984 as a player. Following is a summary of his State Tournament Record as best can be determined.
