DUANE GOODRICH
Topeka, KS
2000 PLAYER-PROMOTER INDUCTEE

Duane Goodrich made four straight appearances in the Kansas
State Tournament from 1971 through 1974, including the last
three in the championship class where he finished as high as
5th. He took a leave of absence from the game for the next 12
years to pursue other interests except for a brief appearance
in 1979. But when Duane began throwing horseshoes again in
1987, he came back with a vengeance, appearing in eight out of
nine Championship Classes from 1989 through 1997. Duane
finished as high as second place in the Kansas State Tournament
in 1992 and also finished third twice, in 1993 and 1994.

He also represented Kansas by attending and appearing in several
World Tournaments while throwing his 1¾ turn wobbly shoe.

Duane served the Kansas State Horseshoe Pitchers Association as
its Secretary-Treasurer from 1995 through 1999 and was Tournament
Director of the State Tournament for those five years. He also
served as Tournament Director for the Topeka Horseshoe Club at the
tournaments held in Topeka for several years. Using his computer
knowledge, Duane helped set up and maintain the website for the
National Horseshoe Pitchers Association and helped put the
tournament results for several World Tournaments on the web so
those pitchers who could not attend could get the results as fast
as possible. Duane developed a computer program to record the
results of local tournaments, and created and maintains the
website for the Kansas Horseshoe Pitchers Association.

For his record of service to the Kansas State Horseshoe Pitchers
Association as Secretary-Treasurer, his work on computers to
promote the game, and his record in the Kansas State Tournament
with 11 Championship Class appearances, Duane Goodrich was elected
into the Kansas State Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame in 2000 as
a Player-Promoter.

Following is a summary of Duane’s Kansas State Tournament records.
