In the mid 1970s, Charles “Bud” Green began his horseshoe pitching career at the Kansas State Tournament. Bud participated in many local and state tournaments during this period, mostly in the B and C divisions. However, in 1994 Bud made the move to the 30-foot Elders Division which was started at the Kansas State Tournament in 1990. Bud quickly mastered the move by switching his pitch from a 1¼ turn to a low ¾ turn that worked well at the shorter distance, greatly improving his ringer percentage average. Bud won his first Kansas State Elder Championship title in 1994 and followed it with two more titles in 1995 and 1996. Bud also won several local tournament titles during this time. Bud was involved in the care of the Topeka horseshoe courts with his friend and fellow Hall of Fame member, Wayne Shelinbarger, keeping these courts in top-notch condition. He also served the Kansas State Horseshoe Pitchers Association as its President in 1985. For his accomplishments in the game of horseshoes in the Elders Division and winning three straight Kansas State Elder Men’s State Champion titles, Charles “Bud” Green was elected into the Kansas State Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame in 1997 as a player. Following are the Elder Men’s Division records for Bud Green at the Kansas State Tournament.
