Statement of Significance (as of designation - May 11, 1976):
From 1899 to 1944, this was the home of William Allen White (1868-1944), the internationally renowned journalist and author, whose writings had a marked effect on the political and social life of the country. His book THE OLDER ORDER CHANGETH (1910) expressed the dominant view of the Progressive movement.
