FALLING TECHNIQUES AND ACROBATICS 1) Body protection techniques 2) Agility training 3) Acrobatics for offense and defense Gymnastics in Kuk Sool is not for athletic or aesthetic purposes. Gymnastics is taught in self-defense to prevent injury due to falls and to escape from various joint locks. There are two basic categories of gymnastics study: falling and acrobatics. Falling is how to brace for a fall whether it is expected or unexpected. These include the front fall, back fall, side fall, front-side fall, cat nak bub (shoulder roll) and hwae jung nak bub. Acrobatics falls under the heading of flipping the body over in various ways to land on your feet and are often considered optional. These include cartwheel, one-handed cartwheel, elbow cartwheel, no-handed cartwheel, hand spring, front flip, back hand spring, and back flip. Falling can be combined with weapons training to enhance and completely understand both the aspects of falling and that of weapon training and retrieval.
