MEDITATION AND BREATHING TECHNIQUES 1) Various breath control techniques 2) Meditation and breathing postures 3) Concentration  techniques

Kuk Sool Won contains an intricate series of Ki Breathing exercises.  These postures are designed to help the smooth flow of Ki through the body.  When Ki flows smoothly the body remains healthy.  These Ki breathing postures are the beginning of martial arts meditation.

Meditation is key to proper martial arts training.  Anyone who is pr has been an athlete has experienced the resistance that comes from their own thoughts when they are pushed to the extreme.  Meditation is a requirement among martial artists in order to completely understand, improve and master his skills.

Meditation is done in three stages.

  •  Development of the Brain.

The brain can be thought of as a muscle, the more that you use it the better it performs.  So, relying on good memory skills and keeping yourself disciplined and focus helps to train the brain.  This is the practice of concentration.  One must be able to concentrate intensely.

  •  Development of the Mind.

The Mind is developed when concentration has been achieved to proficiency.  When one can concentrate, then one can clear the mind.  By clearing the mind, the student starts to focus attention on relaxation and breathing.  Clearing the mind is the next step.

  •  Development of the Heart.

When the Brain can concentrate and the Mind can be clear, the student can then let go of his thoughts and watch them as they go by.  It is not unlike riding a bus and watching the scenery move.  The mind plays its memories and ideas within and the student watches his own self.  This is, of course, self-discovery.  One finds his own Heart and knows his own capabilities and limitations.  He then lives with less personal doubt and more certainty in his life.

After long, consistent, dedicated practice all of these aspects of the Self can be developed.  A proper martial artist knows how to train, has little to no doubts about what he is about, and has nothing to prove because he proves it to his own satisfaction every day.
