Kicking Techniques
KICKING TECHNIQUES 1) Fundamental kicks 2) Spinning kicks 3) Jumping kicks 4) Combination kicking 5) Double-leg kicks 6) Pressure point kicking 7) Specialty kicking Kicking is, of course, a very powerful technique for self-defense. The use of the feet as weapons gives the martial artist additional power and range. The largest muscles in the body are contained in the legs and hips and, with proper technique, they can be used to make very fast and powerful kicks. It isn't enough to lift your foot and hit a target. There are very specific ways in which the leg moves which make it powerful and precise. There are also certain limitations to the leg that must be understood in order to learn how to kick without causing injury to yourself. Kicking in the wrong way can cause injury over time while kicking properly can actually strengthen the muscles and joints. With some kicking techniques the legs must actually first be conditioned and developed before they can be attempted. Kicking can also be made to be incredibly precise. Precision in kicking allows the martial artist to be faster with less power to strike sensitive pressure points which are very vulnerable places on the body. There are over 60 different kicks taught in the Kuk Sool curriculum from the very basic standing kicks to high jumping kicks involving both legs and elaborate spins.
