Hand Techniques

HAND STRIKING 1) Closed and open hand striking methods:  including palm, fist, wrist, finger striking              techniques and specialized hand  training exercises 2) Pressure point striking 3) Striking using the arm            and  shoulder 4) Blocking and parrying

Striking with the hands requires more than just innate power, it requires understanding.  The hand itself is made up of many small bones and joints that can be injured if one doesn't understand proper hand strikes.  Indeed, there is catch phrase called “the bar room  break” where the knuckles of the two smallest fingers are broken after someone attempts a hay maker to the jaw.

Power in the hands is not entirely generated from the muscles of the arm.  A martial artist learns how to use his body dynamics to generate much more force.  With proper balance and understanding of how the body moves he can have very fast and powerful hand strikes.

Power isn't the only consideration, either.  Precision in hand strikes and an understanding of how the hand works allows the martial artist to focus his attack on pressure points which can incapacity an opponent quickly.  In this way, a small person with relatively little strength can defeat a larger person.
