Over 28 years ago BAR Magazine published a small announcement, in response to their subscribers’ letters, suggesting people send in postcards if they were interested in contacting other subscribers in their local area. David DePew, Lorraine Schultz, Betty Sedat and a few others were just such a group in L.A. After a few planning meetings in the summer of 1980, they had their first public meeting that September at the San Gabriel Lutheran Church with two speakers Dr. Butrus Abd-al-Malik and Rev. Roy Blizzard. About 60 attended that first meeting and soon they were the most active chapter in the nation. David DePew was the first president and Lorraine Schultz the first vice president for several years. Bill Ellinger soon became a part of this group. Come help us celebrate the beginning of our 29th year at our September Meeting! |
