PRE-REGISTRATION: Vicki Bowman, our membership chairperson has kindly offered to do the pre-registrations for our annual Laguna Beach walk on July 6 and 7. This event is always planned during the Pageant of the Masters and Art Festival season. It's a good way to have free parking and spend the day browsing in beautiful Laguna Beach. I am taking a holiday and will be visiting my family in St. Louis for the entire month of June. Don't forget to mail your pre-registrations to Vicki Bowman, 2602 W. Orion Avenue #3, Santa Ana, CA 92704-7084. Please mail to arrive by July 1, 2002.

TOP TEN
: Since California has some of the most beautiful country in the nation we sure would love to have some California year-rounds on the top ten list, but only members from other states can vote for us!LTSW's ORANGE COUNTY WALKS for the balance of 2002:
CVA ANNUAL CONVENTION: Time is of the essence if you are planning to attend the May 3, 4, & 5, 2002 events in Vacaville (Solana County), California. They have planned four walks, a luncheon meeting and a dinner. This gives everyone the opportunity to meet fellow volkswalkers from all over the state and to walk in another county (if you are among the many who try to walk every California county). Contact Jill Simmons if you have any questions: 707-448-5148 or Email Jillmail@jps.net.
AVA NATIONAL CONVENTION will be held in Colorado in June 2003. It's not too early to be planning ahead.
We received a Thank You card from Nancy Stenger, the AVA President for our $25 donation towards the website project.
IVV BOOKS: When submitting your Event/Distance books to the AVA, it is no longer necessary to include the previous level book. However, if you have a "carry-over" slip stapled to the previous book it must be submitted.
CALIFORNIA GOLDEN HERITAGE PROGRAM is a multi-year program of walks in areas relative to California Heritage. A Patch and certificate will be awarded to each walker who completes four qualifying events in each of California's regions, North, Central, and South. The program is sponsored by the Placer Pacers who will, upon request, provide a special event book and a list of eligible sites. The fee for participation is $6.00. Requests should be sent to Placer Pacers, California Golden Heritage, PO Box 142, Auburn, CA 95604. There is a special Heritage web site: members.aol.com/WalkCalif/heritage.htm. You may also e-mail inquiries to: the4rs@pacbell.net. Our club is planning a new 2003 year-round in San Juan Capistrano which should qualify for this program.
THE AMERICAN WANDERER: If you are a subscriber, an AVA Associate, and have not received your April-May issue, please notify AVA Headquarters. They can be reached at 210-659-2112 or via E-mail at avahq@ava.org. They assure us they are working on the problem.
I CAUGHT THE SPIRIT AWARD: a special award is issued to a volkssporter who recruits five new Volkssporters. To qualify, a new participant must purchase a 'New Walker' packet and join our club. Our club is maintaining records to keep track of new members and their recruiters. Please advise one of the officers when you have recruited a new walker. This ties in with the Pacific Region Director's (Herman Husbands) goal that every Volkssporter recruit a new Volkssporter in 2002. The recruiters name should be put on the bottom front of the first Event book. Once new walkers have completed their first book, they usually stay with the program.
THANK YOU! To all our members for supporting a club in Orange County. This September LTSW will have it's sixth birthday! If you have Charter Member under your name on the address label, you have been with us since our inception and we thank you for that!! We need members to become Treasurer or Newsletter Editor. Won't you please step up and take a more active role?
