| Carla recalls - The first reunion was in June of 1979. We had all
been at Boyd's house for a meeting, when Duard said he didn't understand
why we couldn't even have a reunion. Dad (Levi) had died Sept. 18, 1977.
So then and there we decided to have a reunion, and to decide when
and where to have them. It just seemed a good idea as a first shot to
gather at the ranch and then decide. Some wanted Pine Valley some wanted
the Hilton; Garn just wanted a pine tree. However the little kids wanted
to go back to the ranch the next year, so it was decided that we would do
that one more time, while really deciding on a permanent spot. We did
decide to have it on a holiday that was the nearest to Dad's birthday,
which is June 4, 1894. So Memorial Day was it. The next year the kids
still wanted to go back to the ranch---and as they say the rest is
history.
In 1996 Carla decreed that it was time for the younger Iverson
generation to become the driving force behind the reunion. By some
method unknown to the unsuspecting, innocent trio, Tina Hatch, Rodney
Iverson and Cyle Iverson, were elected (?) to the positions of President
and Vice-Presidents. Anyone who wished to rebut this decree was
instructed to get three Echo Piney descendants to form an Indian Tribunal
atop Diamond Butte to hear out their concerns. Since this day the
presidential trio formed the Echo Piney Preservation Society whose initial
mission was to track down three descendants of this illusive clan.
Although their search continues today, they have done their best to
fulfill their duties as the head reunion committee. The Echo Piney
Preservation Society hosted the 1997 and 1998 reunions, then decided to
draw first generation names from a hat to see which families would host
the 1999 through 2002 reunions. Where do we go from here?
Should we draw names from a hat again? Should they be first
generation names or second generation names? If you have any ideas
on this subject, we won't make you hunt down Echo Piney descendants to be
heard. Just send your input to Tina,
Rodney or Cyle.
