NEWSLETTER 1984
The 6th annual L.A. Iverson family reunion was held at the A-Z Ranch,
May 26th and 27th.
Duard had the most members there. Garn gets a gold star for having 100%
of his family there. Lee and Boyd get booby prizes for being 100% absent.
The main attraction for the kids was a pontoon raft built by Max and
Cyle, with straw bosses on the job being Hal and Mike. At the first
launching there had been a mis-calculation in design, and the riders got
dumped in the drink! So back to the drawing board, and this time with good
success. The kids, big and little had many hours of fun with it. They also
fashioned a mudslide; and really mudded it up!
David and Shawn missed breakfast Sunday morning, as they decided to go
check out the old Rosenbury house. They were gone a long time, but finally
returned with their tongues hanging out and spitting cotton.
David claimed the reason they were delayed is that they were held
captive by a skeleton with a rope around it's neck who insisted that they
stay for morning tea! The kid has an active imagination.
They also told a story of a baby calf in a hole, dying from motherly
neglect. They were so convincing on that one, that they talked Harley,
Garn, Barbara, Merna, and other assorted members into going to the rescue
with them.
The versions of what happened when they got there are very diversified.
THEORY: From an observer who listened, watched, and did not go on rescue
mission.
They found a baby calf hidden in a wash by it's mother, while she went to
water and graze; who did not want to be disturbed by a couple of strange
two-legged creatures.
How was this theory arrived at? Answer; Harley being an old cowpuncher at
heart, did not come back carrying a baby calf over his shoulders, but
having been primed for this possibility he followed through and came
carrying Merna in like wise manner!
One group took a trip to Uncle Willard's (Grandma Hannah Iverson's) old
house. They found two dead cows, a live rattlesnake, and two friendly
horses, which came up to the car and let the kids pet them. Our horse,
George, was of course at the reunion, but seemed to be so sore footed that
the kids didn't ride him too much.
There was a fine dinner Sunday afternoon. Dutch oven chicken, Tris's
dutch oven potatoes, (Bonnie really makes them,) beef and noodles, ice
cream and birthday cake.
It was Tris's birthday, and it almost set the house on fire when all those
candles were lit. However he blew them all out with one breath. Some
unbelievers, not seeing this the first time, relit them and he did it
again! Now does that tell you something about who was the hot-air champion
there? (Glen couldn't make it this year!)
Ramona and her family were there from Idaho on Saturday. First time she
has been able to come. They had to start back home though so couldn't stay
for the Sunday events.
A SHORT DRAMA: Saturday night Ramona, Stella, Glenna, and kids started
to town; with Mark and Ron to follow shortly. The plan was that when the
lead truck was at the end of Main Street, they should be able to see the
light of the second truck following. Lead truck had passed a hitchhiker
and was now at the end of Main Street-no lights-waited-waited and waited.
Went back to the ranch, no lights, no #2 truck, no hitchhiker!
All this being rather strange, and causing a bit of concern lead truck and
another truck, this being #3 start on the road again in search of #2.
FINAL ACT: #2truck had picked up the hitchhiker and taken him on a side
road to his destination and then returned.
MORAL OF THE STORY: All's well that ends well, but lead truck says that #2
truck and hitchhiker can both go to ----END OF DRAMA.
The L. A. and Estella Iverson descendants now number 83. There were 40
at the reunion.
Here's how they add up as there and not there.
