| In August of 2000, Larry was in the studio with Charles Lyonhart, recording Down To The Hard Line. The album was dedicated to Bill Campbell, Larry's dad, who passed away in January of 2001. Larry wrote/co-wrote several songs on the album: "Sweet Release" was written by Larry, "Just Like You" was written by Larry & Charles Lyonhart and "The Sad Sad Romance of the Road" was written by Larry & Lincoln Schleifer. In addition Larry produced several songs on the album ("Just Like You", "Sweet Release" and "Days Gone By") and co-produced one tune ("The Sad Sad Romance of the Road") with Lincoln. Larry produced and played on
The Dixie Hummingbirds'
album, Diamond Jubilation,
which was released on July 15, 2003 through Treasure Records.
The album was also distributed through
Rounder Records and Valley Entertainment.
It was The Dixie Hummingbirds' 75th Anniversary album. Levon Helm,
Tony Garnier,
Garth Hudson, George Recile and Dr. John were
brought in to work on the album.
"City Of Gold", a Bob Dylan song, was recorded by the Dixie Hummingbirds for this album and also released on the soundtrack for
Masked and Anonymous.
In addition a song from
Julie Miller called "Too Many Troubles" was on the album.
Larry also wrote two songs for this project. "Someday" was a
song he wrote in the 70's with The Hummingbirds in mind, and "When I Go Away"
was a song he wrote on the 2002 Australian leg of Bob Dylan's tour.
The February/March 2004 issue of Relix Magazine had a review, stating Diamond Jubilation was, simply put, one of the year's finest releases. |
| Larry produced his first solo acoustic guitar album Rooftops in 2005. He also wrote two songs for the album, one being the title track. The other song he wrote was called "Henderson County". |
| Larry, Tony Garnier, George Recile and Mickey Rafael recorded "He Was A Friend Of Mine" for the movie Brokeback Mountain with Willie Nelson on December 6th, 2004. Larry produced the song (along with Gustavo Santaolalla) and played guitar, dobro and mandolin. The soundtrack was released in December, 2005. It was nominated but did not win a grammy (2007) for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media. |

Larry produced Ollabelle's second album, Riverside Battle Songs, with
them and played
guitars, lap steel, pedal steel, banjo, cittern, and fiddle.
The album was mixed by GRAMMY® winners T-Bone Burnett and Mike Piersante and engineered by Tom Schick.
Ollabelle appeared on the September 2006 Paste Magazine sampler CD. "Fall Back" from the album appeared on the Issue 24 sampler. |
| In 2007, Larry produced Marie Knight's album, Let Us Get Together, her first in over 25 years. The album was a tribute to the late Reverend Gary Davis. Larry played all the stringed instruments as well. The album was nominated by The Blues Foundation for Best Acoustic Album for 2008. |
| During 2007, Larry was in the studio with Levon Helm, along with Amy Helm, Levon's daughter, Teresa Williams, Brian Mitchell, Byron Isaacs, Glenn Patscha and George Receli recording Levon Helm's first album in over a decade. Dirt Farmer was released through Vanguard Records. The cd contained music reminiscent of Levon's past and songs handed down from Levon's parents. Larry and Amy co-produced the album. At the 2008 Grammy Awards, Dirt Farmer won a grammy for Best Traditional Folk Album. At the 2008 Americana Music Awards, Dirt Farmer was a nominee for Album of the Year and "Poor Old Dirt Farmer" from Dirt Farmer was a nominee for Song of the Year. |
| Larry worked with Catherine Russell in 2007 and produced her second album, Sentimental Streak , for her at Levon Helm's Woodstock Studio. The album was released on February 12, 2008. Larry played mandolin, guitar, resonator guitar,violin, and pedal steel guitar on the album. Also on the album were Matt Munisteri on guitar and banjo, Lee Hudson on acoustic bass, and Larry Ham or Mark Shane on piano. In addition, guest musicians included Byron Isaacs of Ollabelle on acoustic bass, Rachelle Garniez on accordion, James Wormworth on drums, Howard Johnson on tuba, Steven Bernstein on trumpet, cornet, and slide trumpet, Erik Lawrence on saxophones, and Brian Mitchell on piano. |
| Larry produced two songs for The Imus Ranch Record , a cd that raised money for Don Imus' Ranch for kids with cancer. The songs were covers by Levon Helm. Larry played guitar, fiddle and mandolin. They recorded the Arthur Alexander tune "You Better Move On" and "It Takes A Lot To Laugh" by Bob Dylan. "You Better Move On" appeared on the album. Also performing on the song were Mike Merritt, Jimmy Vivino, Brian Mitchell, Teresa Williams and Amy Helm. |
| Larry produced Jorma Kaukonen's album, River Of Time. Larry also played a variety of instruments on the album. It was recorded at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock and featured 5 original Jorma songs and covers by Reverend Gary Davis, Mississippi John Hurt, The Grateful Dead, The Delmore Brothers, Merle Haggard and Big Bill Broonzy. Levon Helm (drums), Teresa Williams (vocals), Barry Mitterhoff (mandolin), Lincoln Schleifer (bass) and Myron Hart (bass) also performed on the album. |
