CloudWater affiliates hold joint event Saturday, Nov. 5
in Akron
The
Akron and Canton Sanghas of CloudWater
Zendo will host "A Day of Zen in Akron" on Saturday,
Nov. 5 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at St. Philip's Episcopal
Church, 1130 Mercer Ave. in Akron. This workshop is suitable
for both beginners and those with experience in meditation
and the Buddhist tradition. Ven. Shih Ying-Fa will give
a Dharma talk entitled, "What is Zen, Really?" For additional

CloudWater
Zendo holds its final Sunday intensive of the year on
Nov. 6. The day is organized into Long (8:00 am to 5:00
pm), Medium (11:00 am to 5:00 pm) and Short (2:00 pm to
5:00 pm) sections. The intensive includes seated, walking
and chanting meditation, work practice, a light lunch and
a Dharma talk by Ven. Shih Ying-Fa. CloudWater Zendo is

for weekend retreat Nov. 11-13
In November,
the Northeast
Ohio Soto Zen Group will welcome it's teacher, Reb
Anderson Tenshin Roshi, of the San Francisco Zen Center,
for a three-day weekend event at The
Gathering Place in Beachwood (directions).
The visit will include a public talk on Friday, November
11; and all-day sittings on Saturday and Sunday, November

and Sunday, Nov. 12-13
The
Cleveland
Buddhist Temple's next rummage sale fund raiser is Saturday
and Sunday, Nov. 12-13. On Sunday, CBT will also hold its
monthly pancake breakfast fund raiser: $5.00 buys biscuits,
sausage links, sausage patties, bacon, fried potatoes, scrambled
eggs, orange juice, and freshly-brewed, freshly-ground home-roasted
coffee.
CBT
welcomes rummage sale donations and volunteers both from
its members and friends. The temple is looking for volunteers
especially for Sunday.

Chapter of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship holds its monthly

CloudWater
Zendo's seventh annual Buddha's Enlightenment Retreat will
be Dec. 2-4 at the Sunset
Shores Retreat House in Vermilion. The preceding week,
in preparation for the retreat, CloudWater will hold daily
mediation sessions starting Sunday, Nov. 27 from 7:00 -
8:50 pm. The retreat costs $80 for the entire weekend. A
nonrefundable deposit of $40 is due by Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Nov. 1, the Cleveland
Shambhala Meditation Group (CSMG) begins a seven-session
series called Lojong: Training the Mind. The course materials

others, how to open up, let go, and help others.

Women's Conference will be in Chicago next March
The
Buddhist Council of the Midwest and DePaul University, Chicago
are jointly sponsoring the Buddhist
Women's Conference March 11, 2006. The keynote speaker
will be Dr. Rita gross, author of Buddhism
after Patriarchy: A Feminist History, Analysis and Reconstruction
of Buddhism. There will also be a panel discussion
on the topic "Women Living the Dharma." Panel members include
Kyoki Roberts, head priest of the Zen Center of Pittsburgh
and Abbess Khenmo Drolma of the Vajra Dakini Nunnery. There
will also be a number of workshop sessions. For more information,

Dalai
Lama's upcoming address to Society of Neuroscience creates
controversy
The
Dalai Lama is scheduled to address the Society for Neuroscience's
annual meeting on Saturday, Nov. 12 in Washington D.C. on
"The
Neuroscience of Meditation." However 544 brain researchers
have signed a petition urging the society to cancel the
lecture because they fear it will damage the credibility
of neuroscience research.

Recently
completed pan-Himalayan train line connects China to Tibet
The
Chinese news agency, Xinhua, reports that China has completed
the first railway line to Tibet at a cost of $3 billion.
The line climbs more than 16,640 feet above sea level, so
the trains that are scheduled to begin running next July
will have to be sealed like aircraft. It links Lhasa, the
capital of Tibet, with Lhasa with Beijing, Shanghai, Xining,
Chengdu and Guangzhou.
