A DIRECTOR’S NOTE TO PARENTS
SUNDAY NIGHT—APPROACHING A BUSY TWO WEEKS

Our THIEVES Team is busy gearing up for an exciting performance in just 11 days, hours, minutes and seconds…  As usual, we have plenty to keep us busy during our final two weeks.  We are excited for you to see the fine performances, the fun and realistic costumes, the interesting lighting cues; enjoy our production music; and see the largest revolving set possible on the LCHS stage!  We have many fine and emerging leaders in the program who have worked hard to make sure that we continue the tradition of excellence that the program has celebrated for the last decade.

Currently 79 students are involved in helping us see our production of THIEVES through its opening night in just 13 short days.  We’ve managed to have an additional 14 students join the team since we’ve posted our cast list a little over a month ago.

All of us on the THIEVES Team want to thank you for allowing our production to be a success.  As we’ve said frequently, families—not students—do productions.  So, THANK YOU for all the things both seen and unseen that you’ve done to help your student participate.  We’re aware that the rides to and from rehearsal, your efforts to keep meals warm, deliver lunches, juggle schedules with other activities, help them out with chores and so much more has helped us as we pursue our goals.

As I walked through the theatre tonight I kept finding myself reminded of how lucky we are to have such great facilities, such fine administrative and Booster Club support, and such wonderful parents.  It seemed that every time I turned around tonight, I found myself encountering another reminder of what a great place LC is and what wonderful students we have here.

So, thank you for all that you’ve done to help our students succeed.  I’m sure we’ll do our best to knock the ball out of the park for all of you in just 11 short days.

NOTE SCHEDULE CHANGE
Pizza Feed to Occur After Thursday’s 11/1/2007 Dress Rehearsal NOT on Halloween Night

Our Pizza Feed to help students celebrate their hard work will occur after our final dress rehearsal on
November 1, 2007, immediately following our rehearsal instead of on Halloween night.  We had originally scheduled the pizza feed for Halloween afternoon.  However, as Halloween does not fall on an early out this year (as we thought during our meeting together earlier in the process), we are going to move it to Thursday evening to protect valuable family time on Wednesday night.

Were we to have the Pizza Feed on Halloween night, we would run into important time that students and families plan to use for church and family activities.  This is important.  It is also true that Halloween night is a very hectic time for pizza places.  Equally important is the fact that years of experience have also taught us to realize that it is important for students to have some down time and rest on the “night before, the night before.”

Students will be asked to bring in some money (usually a few dollars) to off-set the cost of supporting the pizza feed.  We will be sharing that amount with students later this week.

Mr. Doug and Mrs. Kathy Moore (Kelsey) are serving as chairs of our Pizza Feed Celebration Committee.  Mrs. Moore has only heard from one parent so far to help her with this committee.  Please take some time to contact Mr. & Mrs. Moore at (712) 323-6177 or (402) 880-7133.  CLICK HERE to reach the
Moores via email.

Thanks for your patience in this change in our schedule.  We will be giving final notes while our students eat their pizza to save time.

TICKETS NOW ON SALE
Student Ticket Packets to be Distributed Monday 10/22 After Rehearsal & During Lunch Periods on Tuesday 10/23

Tickets for our production are now on sale.  Packets will be passed out tomorrow and Tuesday.

Students were encouraged to “talk it up” at church and with family members and friends this weekend.  We had expected to pass out tickets last week but none of us was too happy with the graphic that we’ve been using, so we worked this weekend to find one that we all liked more.  We have a new production graphic and tickets are ready to be sold.

To help keep track of tickets, each student checks out a block of 16 tickets.  Eight tickets fit on each of the sheets that we use to print our tickets (8 for Friday’s performance and 8 for Saturday’s performance).  Students need not sell all 16 tickets, but we want to make sure they have them if their friends or family members need them.  If students need more tickets for a performance, they are free to check out more tickets.

The Drama Department is a self-supporting program at
Lewis Central High School and our ticket sales for each major production are currently our major fundraisers for the year.  We usually do a great pre-sale and hope to do the same with our ticket sales for THIEVES.

All unsold tickets and ticket money is due to
Charlotte in the Activities Office by the end of business on Thursday, November 1, 2007.  It is important for this production that we know how many tickets we have to sell as several seats are being blocked off to allow us to do some unique things on our set.  Please help us keep an accurate count of seats that we can sell at the door.  With fewer seats we are hopeful that we will sell out this production.

No Photos & Digital Taping During the Production
Public Photo Night to Be Held 11/2/2007, Professional Photographs, DVDs and Videotapes Available for Interested Supporters Available

For years at Lewis Central we have done a photo night for parents, families and friends after our opening night.

The post show photo night usually took lots of time and we worked to honor time last year when we changed the practice by taking photographs to supply to our parents, students and program during dress rehearsal.  We value our final dress rehearsal; so, we invite one or two parents to take these photographs during our final performance.

Mrs. Anne Morgan (Jordan), a professional photographer, has generously agreed to take photographs of this production on our final dress rehearsal night and share those with parents and our school to post on the web.

Please feel free to take photos during our reception lines on either night.  Or on Friday night following the production when we will host a short photo night. We will be taking a cast & crew photograph, a directing team photography, a production team photograph and a cast photograph.  Following those shots, we will close down and call it a night so that students can go and celebrate their hard work.

Please help us with this policy to honor the great efforts of our students.  You can also help us by pointing out others who might ignore the rule or asking them politely to honor our policy.  We want to make sure that everyone enjoys the production.

Production team members Deanna Williams and Jordan Harden have worked tons of hours to get THIEVES photos ready to publish to the school website.  They have also worked diligently to get photos from our last two productions ready to post.  These two awesome students will continue that work and be taking photos of our rehearsals and tech days to share with parents as well. They have worked on resizing and touching up nearly 1000 photographs and deserve a big pat on the back.

Help Us with Our Photo Policy

We believe that it is important not to allow photographs and other digital recording in our production as it is frequently a distraction to other audience members/patrons and is actually both a distraction and potentially dangerous for live actors during their performance.  Our practice at Lewis Central is no different than what other producers of dramatic performances practice.  You will be hard-pressed to find a venue that allows such photos.

The advent of cell phone cameras has also caused us some concerns.  Blackouts in our production are intended to serve as a transition for audience members.  We have a creative plan to remind the audience to turn off their cell phones in our production…it should serve the purpose and give us a laugh as well.

Cast Party Update
Please Lend a Hand to Help Our Students Celebrate Their Hard Work & Success

Your student has been provided with at least one flier with information on our THIEVES cast party.  We hope that you have received it.

Mr. & Mrs. Penney (Ryan) have generously opened their home to host the cast party.  We hope that you’ve taken the time to contact Mrs. Penney to lend a hand in making this a great celebration for our students.

Hosting a party for 79 teenagers is an ambitious task.  We are thankful that the Penneys have volunteered their home.  Please help us provide snacks, food, drinks, chaperoning and other help for our final celebration!  The students have worked very hard and deserve a great celebration.

Props Needed
Two More Patio Furniture Sets, Non-Propane Grills, Moving Boxes, Large Framed Pieces, Random Urban Set Pieces & Yes—a Taxi Cab…

We believe in dreaming big.  So, as we do our best to create an Upper East Side street scene, several urban balconies and an apartment that is in transition due to moving, we need your help.

As usual, the set for this production is ambitious.  We need to create a building, a large apartment, four patio areas, two subway stops, a theatre and more.  We believe we’ve been clever in staging all of these locations in our auditorium.  Now, we’d like to “dress” our set.

Mrs. Petri (Lauren) has volunteered to lend us one patio furniture set.  We still need two others and a few small patio pieces for another set area.  CLICK HERE if you can help us by lending us a patio furniture set and a non-propane grill or two.

We are also looking for U-Haul or moving boxes.  They need not be pretty and it might be helpful if they were labeled from a previous moving experience.  We have built great acting areas including the largest revolve we’ve ever created at LC.  We’ve located a newspaper machine, a street bench, a fire-hydrant, two street lamps and maybe a Taxi cab or a small vehicle.  Yes, you heard right…an actual Taxi Cab or a small vehicle.

We’re excited about the potential to make our street scene very realistic.  Of course, the vehicle will never be started on stage.

On our wish list for set pieces is a US Mailbox, a second street bench, an awning that might be in storage, moving boxes, large framed pieces, a small bed, other pieces that might fit well in an urban setting.

CLICK HERE if you can help us with any of the props on our wish list.

Parent Committees Up and Running
Contact Us or the Parent Chair to Help with Other Committees

If you take a look at our schedule, you’ll see that I will be very busy as a department of one getting the production ready for you, your family, friends and loyal patrons.

We do offer many ways that a parent can support our students with time, talent or treasure.

CLICK HERE to see how other parents are helping or how you might help.

We are excited and thankful to all the parents and guardians who have helped us fill up the committees to take tickets, chair the cast party (other parent help is needed here), chair the pizza feed committee (other parent help is needed here), locker signs, taking production photos, and helping with minor costume alterations.   Thanks to all these parents for their help.

Chairing a lunch or dinner for our upcoming FINAL TECH day would be welcome as we expect to be very busy.  We could also use some assistance with supervision on our TECH DAY
Tuesday 10/23/2007 from 6:30-9:30 PM or supervision during our TECH DAY on Saturday 10/27/2007.  You need not attend the full period or a full day.  Any help in supervision would be appreciated to help keep our students busy.

Please feel free to join us as we put the finishing touches on our production.
