In it was written:
Grandfather Gilcrest - died Feb. 10, 1895.
Aged 84 yrs. 11 mo. 13 days.

This would place the date of birth at 25 Feb 1810. He resided Springfield, OH in 1840 in Western Reserve Mill.(31) He died on 10 FEB 1895. Date of death given in Alice Rebecca Gilcrest VanCampen's autograph book now held by Lee Wise. Entry reads:

Grandfather Gilcrest - died Feb. 10, 1895.
Aged 84 yrs. 11 mo. 13 days.
Grandmother Gilcrest - died Dec 27, 1897.
Aged 80 yrs. 7 mo. 10 days. He was buried in Springfield, OH (Presbyterian Church (Ellet) Cemetery).(384) (385) He was a Millwright in Akron, Summit Co., OH. From a handwritten note by Robert Alexander Gilcrest.
The copy was given to Lois Wise by Letty "Tish" Gilcrest, of Mesa, AZ. According to notes from book "From Gille Chrioso to Gilcrest" by Robert Alexander Gilcrest which were given to Lois Wise by Letty "Tish" Gilcrest Saemisch, Robert Anson acquired 160 acres of land in 1819 in Wayne County, OH near Wooster. The instrument was signed by President James Monroe and belonged to Charles L. Gilcrest of Des Moines. It now hangs in Iowa State Historical Building. Robert's last move was to a frrm in Green County, OH, a few miles southeast of Xenia, near a little town called Paintersville. Here he died in 1850 at age 81. Parents: William Gilcrest and Jane Smith.
