I learned a lot from Roy and had a very good time working with him. One short anecdote:

During the last summer I worked for Roy, 1967, he asked me to learn to operate a medium sized roller, used in surface treating roads. One of Roy's permanent employees protested, telling Roy that he was a tank driver in the army and that he was more qualified to run the roller than I was. Roy replied, telling this employee that I operated farm machinery for many years and that he would much rather I operate the roller and take care of it like a piece of farm machinery, than to have him drive the roller like a "damn tank". Charles F. Kohler
Akron: the oldest of a family of 5 sons and 1 daughter; born Sept. 6, 1855, to Andrew; he of Andrew and Sarah Fisher, daughter of John Fisher. He is of German-English descent. Charles' father was for many years engaged in general merchandising at Richfield and Jersey Shore Store, in the state of Pennsylvania, where, in Juanita county, Charles was born, and received all the educational advantages of his community; then, after moving to Akron, in the spring of 1870, he completed the high school term and took a course at the Oberlin Commercial School, where he received a diploma for Profficiency. On the 1st of Jan., 1879, he accepted the position of Weighmaster and Bookkeeper at the Summit Mine, formerly the old Steese Mine. He was married, April 10, 1879, to Alice Brittain, daughter of John T. Brittain. They have one child, Burt. B., born Feb. 4, 1880. Charles' only sister, Mrs. Ferdinand Diebold, residing in Cleveland; his oldest brother, John, studying medicine with Dr. Leight; the others are attending school, the father being careful that his children improve their educational advantages.
