Audra Van Campen Howard, 86, of Phoenix, a retired insurance clerk, died Jan. 25, 1997. She was born in Akron, Ohio. Survivors include her daughters, June and Shirley: son, Richard; sisters, Lois P. Wise and Dawn M. Geiger; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Paradise Chapel, 3934 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, with visitation one hour before services.

Ed. note: Daughters and son are really step-daughters and step-son. She has no children of her own. She did not marry Homer Howard until she was 66. Parents: Charlie Theron VanCampen and Alice Rebecca "Beckie" Gilcrest.

Found memorial service card in Lois Wise's files, 1/9/2000. The card refers to Greenwood Memorial Park. Also a newspaper clipping dated 3/23/1950 confirms this. LAW Worked at NOT&L Company (Northern Ohio Traction & Light Company). This company provided electricity for residential and for Electric Buses which ran from Akron through Brady Lake and on to Ravenna. Audra, Dawn, & Lois all rode the buses from Ravenna to Akron.
Charlie worked at the sub-stations keeping things repaired and running. He worked all different shifts at different times.

He also sold fish to make money. He ordered 50 to 100 lbs a week. He sold it around the neighborhood, esp. to Catholics on Fridays. That made enough money to cover their own fish.

When the girls were little, they would scratch or massage his head, five minutes for a penny.

Charlie was a member of the Moose Lodge. He played poker once in a while. While there, they would auction off candy bars at the end of the evening. He would bring home a box of candy bars. The kids really liked them. Lois would eat hers too fast. Their Mother would then ask the rest to share what they had left with Lois...

Lived in Springfield Lake, in Summit County, when all six children were born. Parents: Harry Daniel VanCampen and Fannie Loretta Holden.

When considering the source genealogy work and the census information for 1820 in Chemung Twp., it looks like we have a match. There appears to be one older male living with Daniel and his family, perhaps Jan VanCampen, Daniel's father... Then there are five males and four females, a match.

This doesn't account for the next listing in the Chemung Twp. census, which has Daniel VanCamp Jr. listed as a separate family with six children. So, there is still a question. Was there a hired farm-hand or something? Parents: Jan VanCampen and Elizabeth Depuy (Depew).
