At 4:30 A.M. on the morning of April 12, 1861, the first shots of the American Civil War rang out at Fort Sumter, South Carolina. The events of that day would forever change our country and have long lasting ramifications on my ancestors in the South and the generations that followed them. I've written a book about my family during the Civil war. Five chapters are dedicated to different branches of my family tree. The first 3 chapters are about the lives of my ancestors, before, during, and after the Civil War. The 4th and 5th chapters are genealogy reports on the ancestors and descendants of each of the primary individuals. Henry Brasher, Claiborne Mayes Coffee, Leroy R. Hilton, William Levi Speights, and William Browder Lee are the primary ancestors in this book. My intent is to give a historical, as well as a personal account of the trials and tribulations endured by the hardy people I call my ancestors. In addition, I've tried to describe some of the history of the places where they lived, some of the battles in which they participated, and the conditions of their every day life. I'm not much of a writer, but if you're interested in getting a copy, please click on the book at the left and it will take you to the Xlibris.com website where it can be ordered. It can also be ordered through other book stores; however, the Xlibris site is the least expensive.
