Private John Robertson
John Robertson was born in 1780 and was from Streatham, New Hampshire. He served with the
Corps of Artillery and joined the Corps of Discovery in 1803 at Kaskaskia, Illinois. He was 5' 9" tall, and had
blue eyes, light hair and a light complexion. He was shoe maker in civilian life. He couldn't resist drinking a little
liquor on occasion which would get him into trouble. He was reduced in rank from corporal to private by Lewis and Clark.
He probably went with the expedition as far as the Mandan villages and then returned to St. Louis on the keelboat
in 1805. Nothing more is known about him.
