A
Pie Fable
by Libby
And it happened that in the land of America there was a competition to guess pies, and many attempted this feat, but on this occasion, only one succeeded. And the question was asked, "What form of pie should you like to be awarded?" And the answer came back, "Pecan."
| And so it was that the holy grail of pecan pies came into being on the East Coast of America, and the Cook gazed upon her work and saw that it was good. And the Cook cradled the pie in protective foam and sent it forth on its journey. | ![]() |

And as the holy grail of pecan pie was created, so was a Knight brought forth to guard it and see it safely delivered to Kansas. For it is traditional that the holy grail be guarded by a special Knight, who is a good sport and willing to go along with all things nutty. |
| And it happened that on the day the pie arrived in Kansas, a celebration was taking place to honor the holiday of Christmas. And the Knight delivered the pie to the celebration so that all could partake of its sweet richness. | ![]() |

And the pie was divided and many tasted its glory, and proclaimed it the best pecan pie that had ever been created in the history of pies. And the scent of bourbon was strong in their nostrils. |
| And so the holy grail of pecan pie was consumed and judged delectable, and all who tasted gave thanks to the Cook, and praised her skill to all. And shortly there was none left but crumbs, which mocked the celebrants sorely. | ![]() |
But of course the memory of the pie will live on in fables, stirring in every reader's heart the hope that one day, they too will be the lucky recipient of a special pie.
May it be your turn some day soon.
Special thank-yous to Traci, the Cook, for her pie-goddessness, and to Leon, the Knight, for his sense of silliness, and to Helen and James, for their web and statistical genius, and of course, to Dave and Dave's Mom, who know the importance of pie in one's life.
