SCOTTSDALE
- Looking to make its links more
appealing,
Scottsdale
is preparing to tee off on some improvements to the Tournament
Players Club of Scottsdale's Desert Golf Course.
The city plans to expand the clubhouse. Indoor seating, a
covered patio and larger area for food preparation are planned
for the clubhouse expansion.
The city is taking bids on the $10 million project, which also
will improve drainage and irrigation on the 20-year-old
course. Bids are due July 12, with construction to begin in
February, after the next FBR Open golf tournament at the
adjacent TPC Tournament Course.
"We feel that
we've fallen behind over the years in terms of the quality of
the golf experience," said Tom Beat, contracts manager
for
Scottsdale
.
Beat said renovations will upgrade the course to a make it
more competitive with others, such as the Grayhawk Golf Club.
The Desert course will be closed from February through
November 2007.
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation leases the land for the golf
courses to
Scottsdale
. The city in turn leases it to the TPC, a group affiliated
with the PGA Tour, which agreed to spend $5.75 million over
the next 30 years for renovations.
