I am located in the heartland of the U.S. --Wichita, Kansas. Wichita is listed as Zone 6, but the climate really tests the performance of the daylilies grown here. Seasonal conditions include hot, dry and windy summers and winters with little to no snowfall and frequent freeze/thaw cycles. Only those cultivars with proven performance in these conditions are offered for sale. A fledgling hybridizing program was started in 2002 with 48 seedlings and has grown to well over 750 seeds planted in 2005. My number one breeding goal is for colorfast daylilies that look as good at 7:00 in the evening as they did at 7:00 in the morning. The primary focus within this goal are clear pinks and purples, unusual forms, and patterned eyes (although I can't resist dabbling a little in all areas). Additional goals include attractive foliage and vigor making for strong performance as landscaping plants. Notice: We will be moving our home and garden in Wichita to the Lancaster County area of PA this summer. See my Moving Special Discount of 10% off.
My garden is State Licensed and Inspected.
A note about Rust... As of 10/5/05--my garden was once again infected by rust that came in on a plant from the south. Presently the infection is limited to the carrier and three plants behind it. I will again take precautions to prevent rust from overwintering in my garden. These include cutting back all infected plants and removing all garden debris after the plants go dormant. There have been no confirmed cases of rust overwintering in Zone 6 and I am certain that rust will again be eliminated by the winter cold. . |
