Lendy's commisary

The Lendy's Commissary.

Once housing the general offices, food preparation and warehousing for Lendy's. The commissary was so busy in its heyday that they had to employ their own comptroller. Located behind the old Apperson Drive location, today it is the home of Plantation Pride Bakery.

The original Apperson Drive Lendy's in the mid sixties. By then, the broadcast booth on the roof had lost its radio call letter signage, and a new sign appeared in front with the spinning Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket.

The Waterfall

At the Apperson Drive Lendy's, Leonard Goldstein had an actual working waterfall with surrounding stonework built, but it sometimes had unintentional amusing consequences. It seemed that the rushing water sounds caused a state of distress in some people, particularly the ladies. They first tried turning down the flow, but eventually had to turn it completely off. According to Leonard, "They kept saying it made them want to go to the bathroom."

Thanks to the very nice renovation by Bastian's Bar-BQ, today the waterfall is flowing once again.
