Simon,
This is in response to your question about Gelrite.  In our laboratory we
have found that the solidification of Gelrite is pH dependent.  You must
adjust the concentration of the Gelrite for the desired pH of the media:
pH 4 4.92g/L
pH 5 2.93g/L
pH 6 1.36g/L
pH 7 0.64g/L
pH 8 0.50g/L
pH 9 0.40g/L
