OrchidREADME

Hi there!
You're probably wondering what these HUGE compiled files
are for here in the incoming directory.
They are the compiled works of ahicks@nmt.edu, and of many others in
the orchid realm, and are for orchid growers to keep them from killing orchids.

OrchidFAQ1.1: mondo, huge kinda thing for orchid growers.
Contains OrchidCare and OrchidGenera.

OrchidGenera: Compiled list of orchid genera and their
parentage and abbreviations.

OrchidCare: Shortcourse on how not to kill orchids.

Colchicine1.1: treatment of orchids with colchicine in order to
induce polyploidy.

Welwitschia: cultural notes on this south African succulent. NOT
an orchid, BTW.

chrome: file on chromosome counting technique.

disa: short file on Disa culture.

flasking: short file on flasking. See "seedsowing" below.

lighting1.1: with the lighting info in the orchid FAQ1.3, this should
give you ALL the info you need on artificial illumination!

mischort: some stray notes on plants other than orchids. Stuck here
so I can direct others to it.

orchidpp: short course on orchid pests and pathogens. Incomplete.

orchidwindowsill: orchids that are better than some others for
windowsill culture.

phosphoric.acid: use of phosphoric acid as an acidifying agent in
water, as well as a nutrient suppliment.

pollen.viability: techniques to determine the viability of pollen.

repotting1.x: latest version of the repotting cultural sheets for
orchids.

rockwool: technical and practical info on rockwool as a potting
media.

seedsowing: the basics on orchid seed germination.

      shipping: tips on shipping orchids.

society1.x: list of orchid societies, contacts, meeting times
and places, etc.

water1.x: water for the essential orchid grower.

Please retain these files for as long as reasonably possible:
if there have been no updates for 6 months, I would say it would be safe
to go ahead and kill the puppy, as either I left skool, or got killed in
a tragic car accident.

Address any questions towards ahicks@nmt.edu. Thanks!
