Fall 2008 newsletter

It has been a great year. Thanks to money raised at the auction in February 2008, we were able to provide  several scholarships. 287 children attended camp. At least 3 children were baptized. Praise the Lord.

A great Thank You goes out to Anita Carson “head chef” and her helpers, Sue Hoggatt, Patrice Green, June Branch,  Kristen Farr and Nilda Watkins, for providing the campers with great home cooked meals. If you would  like  to help her in this effort and would like to volunteer a week at the next camp session, please e-mail us at: cbbchelpinghands@yahoo.com and we can tell you all  that is involved.

The directors for the camp sessions were:

Ethan Roberts (Sun Valley);Theo Jones( Camelback);Chris Cates ( Camelback);

George Burney (Tempe;)Kirby ( Goodyear);Kyle Wewe ( Gateway;)Josh Maulden ( Southwest);Jason Craddock ( Mesa);Dan Lee ( SouthWest)and Brad Rayburn (Tempe)

The position of Nurse was filled by:Ethan Roberts and Rusty Farr.

We had some awesome counselors: Erin ( Harding)

Becky, Justin and Allen ( OCU), Joshua and Nathan (York college)

Heather and Alex .and jr.counselors: Allison and Karis (Camelback)

Jacks of all trades were: Nancy, George and Glenn

Cleanup Crew: Michael Barns and the” Farr boys”

Kristin Farr was voted volunteer of the year (2007) and Ethan Roberts volunteer of the year the year 2006

It is, with all the help of these brothers and sisters, that camp is successful.

Their dedication and love for the Lord served as an example for all of those who attended Camp.

In September 2008  new officers and chairwomen were voted in and appointed.

Chairperson: Sue Hoggatt

Vice chairperson: Nilda Watkins

Treasurer: Anita Carson

Secretary: Diane Simo

Chairperson auction: Diane Simo

Chairperson membership and memorials: Henriette Wouters

Chairperson newsletter: Henriette Wouters

We would like to thank  Diane Gist for her years and years of serving on the board of Helping Hands in the position of Chairperson. She is an inspiration to all of us.

Anita Carson had to step down as chairperson for the auction. She was the driving force for several years in motivating us to solicit articles for the auction.

Last but not least a Thank You to Nancy Sparks. Without her we would not have had a record of our meetings.

In the day to day running of Helping Hands we would like to recruit some members to become more actively involved with the organization. We are always looking for women to help out at the craft table, make food for the sweetheart dinner, help with the website, mailings etc.

Ladies at any event you can bring some handmade articles or home-baked goods for sale. If the article does not sell that day and you think you might need it for another function, you can take it home again and bring something else next time. Your support is so greatly appreciated.

We are also actively looking for a teenager who needs to do volunteer work for school and could help us with the newsletter and/or the designing of the website.

On the first Tuesday of September, November, January and April, Helping Hands meets at the Camelback Church of Christ located at 5225 E Camelback. These meetings start at 7:30 pm. If you would like to get involved please come and join us.

 Did you also know

    * That we had some men from the Lewis prison, working for the forest service on the fire-crew, staying in Camp. They cleaned some trees for us and scraped the wood, which we then used for some of our construction. Great work gentlemen.

    * That in the spring 17 sojourners came and cleaned the camp from top to bottom and rebuild the bridge by the firepit. That much for retirement.

What a great ministry they have.

    * That Victor ‘s mission workshop attracted 38 people.

    * That we have a weekender which you can rent for your family

    * That John Wood (Camelback) did his Eagle Scout project at     Camp and build the benches around the fire-pit. Congratulations John and Thank You.
