Small Business Forum in Montgomery County, MD
Saturday, May 19, 2001, 4PM
Location:  Montgomery County Council Building
100 Maryland Avenue
Rockville, MD
Hosted by League Of Korean Americans of Maryland (LOKA-MD)

Dear Friends:

Please be reminded about tomorrow's Small Business Forum in Montgomery County, Maryland, hosted by the League of Korean Americans of Maryland (LOKA-MD). The forum is scheduled for Saturday, May 19, 2001, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Montgomery County Council Building, located at 100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, Maryland. There is no registration fee. Light dinner and refreshments will be provided.

LOKA-MD is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization with well over 5,000 members in the State of Maryland. LOKA-MD is dedicated to advancing and protecting the rights of Korean American and Asian American citizens and permanent residents through community service and policy initiatives at all levels of the government.

This forum will be geared toward empowering small minority-owned businesses in the State of Maryland. Topics for discussion will focus primarily on how small businesses could take advantage of government financial assistance programs (from federal to local), such as low-interest loans, venture capital financing, procurement assistance and grants, loan guarantees, and company investment and development programs.

With an increasingly growing minority population in Montgomery County (with over 90,000 Asian Pacific Americans in Montgomery County alone), many of whom own small businesses, this seminar will certainly be valuable to not only the minority community, but to the community at large. We are expecting well over 200 small businesses to be in the audience.

The program includes distinguished speakers from all sectors of the government as well as the private sector to offer invaluable information on the above-mentioned topics. Our keynote for the event will be the Honorable Mark Shriver, Maryland State Delegate. Other distinguished guests include former President of the Montgomery County Council, Michael Subin and Vice-President of the Montgomery County Council, Steve Silverman. Distinguished panelists include: Assistant Chief Counsel for Procurement, Major Clark III; Calvin Jenkins, District Director of the Washington District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration; Maryland State Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs, Gary Brown; Maryland State Lt. Governor’s Office, Cecilia Castellanos; Montgomery County’s Director for Procurement, Beatrice P. Tignor; and Chong R. Son, CEO and President, Quality Food Company.

We look forward to seeing you. If you have any questions, please call me at W: 202-225-0113 or H: (703) 820-5724.

Sincerely,

Man K. Cho
Executive Director
League of Korean Americans of Maryland (LOKA-MD)

Directions:

From Beltway, take 270 north, and take exit 5. Make a right turn at signal light and go down for about 2 miles. The Montgomery County Council Building will be on the right hand side at 100 Maryland Ave., Rockville, Maryland.
