A Human Wave Attack is a mass formation of soldiers, armed and or unarmed, that close assault a position or objective in close order formation, much like 19th Century warfare, in an attempt to gain the position or objective by sheer force of numerical superiority.

The Chinese used bugles and other noise making devices for the psychological impact to instill fear in the enemy. The also used it on occasion for communication.
