A Really Fine Lotus Elite
Here are some pictures of a nearly perfect 1961 Lotus Elite. The owner (we'll call him Dave because that's his name) is a member of our local Lotus car club. I was so impressed with the quality of his car, I wanted to share it with you. Just look how clean it is. You could eat off the engine (but then you'd get it dirty). I've heard it runs as good as it looks. Someday I'll have to bum a ride.

- Coventry Climax Engine type FWE (Feather Weight Elite) derived from a fire-fighting waterpump powerplant
- 1216 CC Displacement
- Single overhead camshaft
- Stage II tune - about 90 HP at 6500 RPM
- 10:1 Compression
- Two SU H4 Carburetors
- Exhaust headers
- Monocoque construction using stressed glass reinforced plastic
- Weight is 1200 Lbs. with fuel
- 4 Wheel disc brakes with the rear inboard against the differential
- 4 wheel independent suspension with Chapman Struts in the rear and A-arm incorporating the sway-bar in the front
- Front steel subframe embedded in the plastic providing front suspension mounts and engine mounts and forming a rollbar over the windshield with jacking points.
