IN LOVING MEMORY OF NAPOLEON

(September 18, 1995 - April 4, 1998)

If you have ever lost a beloved pet, you know how it feels to lose one of life's greatest treasures -- a true friend ... I hope the following poem will bring you the comfort it brings me. While my precious little Napoleon was not a Chihuahua, he was a Toy Fox Terrier, which is a breed that was created using the Chihuahua, so he was very "Chihuahua-ish" ... just look at those ears! Such a precious boy ... when I would come home from a hard day's work, he would leap into my arms and we would "dance" around the living room, and I would sing to him "his" song ... "you are so beautiful to me".

Nappy - The Best Little Boy in the World!
MY GIFT TO JESUS
I wish someone had given little Jesus a dog
as loyal and loving as mine
to sleep by His manger and gaze in His eyes
and adore Him for being divine.
As Our Lord grew to manhood, His own faithful dog
would have followed Him all through the day
while He preached to the crowds and made the sick well
and knelt in the Garden to pray.
It is sad to remember that Christ went away
to face death alone and apart,
with no tender dog following close behind
to comfort its Master's heart.
And when Jesus rose on that Easter morn,
how happy He would have been
as His dog kissed His hand and barked its delight
for the One who died for all men!
Well, the Lord has a dog now; I just sent him mine,
the old pal so dear to me;
And I smile through my tears on this first day alone,
knowing they're in eternity.

MY DEAR FRIEND, NAPPY, YOU LEFT ME MUCH TOO SOON!

YOU WILL BE FOREVER MISSED!

The Love of a Dog...

Surely only the Love of God is more true...

"JUST A DOG"
From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."
Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted.
Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."
"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy.
"Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that makes me a better person.
Because of "just a dog", I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.
"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.
I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog", but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a man or woman."
So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog", just smile - because they "just don't understand."

THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS "JUST A DOG"!
