Welcome to the SpringTree Home School Support Group web site.
SpringTree - Schooling Parents Really In Need of a Group -
Teaming for Responsible Eclectic Education!
SpringTree Homeschool Support Group is a home education support group dedicated to supporting all home educating families regardless of religious beliefs or affiliations. We serve families throughout Northern Virginia, DC, and Southern Maryland. Our members represent varied styles of homeschooling, ranging from the highly structured/school-at-home to the eclectic to the student led/unschooled.
SpringTree meets each week on Wednesday during the public school year to provide our children with socialization and learning opportunities which may otherwise be unavailable due to cost or are just done better with a larger group.
SpringTree is now requesting a yearly membership fee of $5 to help off set the operational cost of the group. The group has no hierarchy outside of what Kathy and I do to coordinate the group's weekly activities, everyone has a voice in the management of the group. We ask that members...as they feel able and ready...step forward to plan group activities. There are no attendance requirements. Pick the activities that appeal to your family and schedule and forget the rest - no comment required.
Our monthly schedule looks like this:
FIRST WEDNESDAY- Museum Day: The group meets at a museum. These tours usually are not guided tours but, rather, free exploration by the kids with their parents. However, if a parent would like to arrange for a guided tour, they are invited to do so. Included among the many museums we've visited in the past are: The Air and Space Museum, Museum of American History, Hidden Oaks Park, and the Museum of Natural History. These trips are intended to have little or no cost to attend.
SECOND WEDNESDAY- Outdoor Fun Day: This may be a simple park day at a local park or ice skating on the Mall in D.C. The point is to have fun outside doing something together with the group. In this area, our options are many!
THIRD WEDNESDAY - Field Trip Day: This day is for a parent-arranged field trip. Some SpringTree activities from past years include: Snow skiing at Ski Whitetail Resort, performances at Ford's Theatre, Ringling Bros., Barnum & Bailey Circus, Six Flags, Great America, The National Cathedral, the "Pageant of Peace" on the Ellipse, the Baltimore Children's Museum, the National Aquarium and countless other activities over the ten years of our existence.
Fourth Thursday of the month - Bowling Day - Fairfax Circle Bowl America
FIFTH WEDNESDAYs are bonus days. Activities vary
