Bowling is $5.00 (cash) per bowler, regardless of age, for two games and rental shoes. When you arrive at the bowling alley, find Lisa or Kathy at a table to the left of the entrance. You will pay one of them first, then go to the counter to get your rental shoes before going to one of our assigned lanes. We will have lanes with and without bumpers. There is a snack bar on site for everyone to enjoy also.
OCTOBER
5 Museum Day We're going to stay close to home for Museum Day in October, the first Wednesday of the month. We'll meet at Fairfax Museum at 10:00 am. We'll be taking a self-guided walking tour of Fairfax historic building sites. Hope to see you next Wednesday at the entrance to the Fairfax Museum between 10 and 10:15. We'll start walking at 10:15. If you're late, you can walk fast and catch up! :) Remember to wear comfortable walking shoes!!
12 Visit to Cox Farm's Annual Fall Festival in Centreville, Virginia. The main party of the group will meet at 10 at our usual gathering spot -- the picnic tables in front of the stage - Feel free to bring a picnic lunch...coolers are fine. Cox Farm has lots of fun things to do! Fun entertainment! Hay rides! Free cider and apples while visiting the festival! And everyone will get a free pumpkin to take home with them!
19 Field Trip - Wed., October 19, 1:15pm -- Insect Safari -- for 1st thru 6th grades. "Insects are fascinating invertebrates that come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. See a slideshow and then gear up for a safari to search for these minute mysteries in the meadow and forest." Come to Riverbend Park, in Great Falls, Virginia, for this naturalist-led program which, in addition to the slideshow, includes a 1/2 mile hike (not stroller friendly) and capturing then releasing insects (or following a search list to find insects in cases, if it rains). Program is held rain or shine; it will last about 1 hour if it rains, otherwise it will last about 1 + 1/2 hours. There is a 10 student minimum and a 25 student maximum for this program, and a non-refundable, advance payment of $3.00 per student is required. 16 Field Trip - Oct. 1st. Wed., November 16, 1:15pm -- Rain on My Watershed -- for 2nd thru 6th grades. What happens when it rains? Find out with this action-packed program by creating an enormous land mass with mountains, waterfalls, lakes -- and pollution -- and then we'll make it rain. Find out how each of us fits into the Potomac River watershed. Become part of the water cycle, make erosion happen, and take a hike (not stroller friendly) along the Potomac River. 7 Museum Day - – Visit to the U.S. Botanical Gardens; the garden is found between the Native American Museum and the Capital Building. Unfortunately, the parking is very limited and there is no close metro stop. Carpools are highly encouraged. Please RSVP to Laria at teammatthews@att.net just so we know to look for you. We will meet inside the garden at 10:30am just past the security check area. Laria will bring the "Springtree" sign.

14 Outdoor Fun Day - Dec 14th - Outdoor Fun Day – Ice Skating on the National Mall. http://www.nga.gov/ginfo/skating.shtm We are planning on attending the 10:00 session. Let’s meet there at 9:45. 21 Field Trip Day -A visit to Old Town Alexandria’s John Carlisle House. http://www.carlylehouse.org/ Come see the home of John Carlisle, friend of George Washington, George Mason and Lord Thomas Fairfax. The house is right on the waterfront in Old Town and within walking distance of the Torpedo Factory for that last minute Christmas Shopping. We will meet at 10:30 at the Carlisle House. Please let Lisa know if you are coming so I can insure that there will be enough guides on hand.
28 Bowling at the Fairfax Circle Bowl America – 1:00 – 2 games for $5 and that includes that shoes. This is usually our most attended event so if you want to meet other home educators this is the place to be.
JANUARY
4 January Museum Day - National Museum of American History
Ray Charles exhibit- First floor west - We will meet inside the museum just beyond security at 10:30am. This is a self-guided tour, you will probably have time to view other exhibits if you wish.
Ray Charles overcame racism, poverty, and blindness to gain worldwide acclaim as a singer, songwriter, pianist, and arranger. His inimitable voice and passionate style made him one of the most beloved musicians of our time. With his genius for fusing gospel, rhythm and blues, soul, blues, jazz, country, rock, and pop, Charles became one of the most innovative and influential talents in American music. With a legacy of some 10,000 live performances, uncounted recordings, and many memorable hits, Charles proved himself a musical visionary. He continued performing until his death on June 10, 2004.
The Federal Triangle and Smithsonian stations, on Metrorail's Blue and Orange lines, are located near the Mall. Every subway station is equipped with an elevator and most with escalators.

Join us for a special $7.50 admission price every Friday evening from September 16, 2005 through February 24, 2006. Arrive at the Aquarium between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., and explore until 10 p.m. Fridays After Five is a great time for visitors to enjoy the tropics of the Amazon River Forest during the cold winter months. Fridays After Five is presented by Southwest Airlines, and supported by Fox 45 and WB 54 television.

Choose from seven different hands-on Adventure Lessons designed for grades 3 to 12. All lessons incorporate actual artifacts excavated from archaeological sites in Alexandria and examine various topics associated with the development of the city.
