News from around the world...
- Jeffrey Jones, a Sunday School teacher in England, got in hot water
for suggesting Princess Diana went to hell. He pointed to her extra-marital
affairs and the fact that she consulted mediums, actions which he claimed
were not consistent with Christian principles. The late princess was defended
by no less than Church of England Archdeacon, John Barton, who accused
Jones of spreading "perverted theology." Barton explained that
while "Diana was fallible and morally frail, she did attempt to make
a positive difference in the world." (We must assume Mr. Barton is
unfamiliar with the warning in Galatians 1:9. "If
any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let
him be accursed.")
- Quote of the day: "If an American President ever lied to the American
people, he should resign." Bill Clinton, June 1974.
- The U.S. fired over 70 missiles at suspected terrorist camps in Sudan
and Afghanistan. Israel and Great Britain applauded America's attack on
terrorism. A number of Arab nations, however, were outraged.
- The pro-Hindu government in India recently declared Catholic churches
were not legal places of worship. It seems the use of communion wine during
mass violates the nation's liquor laws. Fortunately, the Prime Minister
ordered that decision reversed.
- A Christian leader in Nepal is predicting persecution for the growing
church in his country. That persecution, he claims, will come from three
different sources—Hindu fundamentalists, Maoist revolutionaries, and government
bureaucrats. The church has doubled in size since 1991 and now numbers
nearly 400,000 members.
News from Israel...
- The Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation will likely its lose funding
from the United States. Before leaving for recess the Senate voted 99-0
to ban all funds for the Palestinian network. This came as a result of
more revelations that the Palestinians regularly broadcast programs designed
to incite violence, even among children. Since 1994, the network has received
more than $500,000 from various U.S. agencies.
- Security personnel are predicting an increase in attacks on Jews in
Judea and Samaria. Both the Palestinian press and its public officials
seem to be encouraging these attacks by suggesting the settlements are
a "cancer which must be removed from the land."
- The Immigration Minister of Israel says the current financial crisis
in Russia could result in a sharp increase in immigration from that country.
Currently 450,000 Jews are eligible to immigrate under the law of return.
- In response to an American pastor's comments comparing President Clinton
to King David of the Bible, a Jewish Rabbi sought to show some key differences.
Rabbi Yossi Sarid noted that while Clinton was reproved publicly and still
did not admit his sins until forced to, King David was reproved privately
by the prophet Nathan, and still chose to confess his sin publicly.
Feature Story...
Monica Lewinski part of a Zionist Plot?
It is interesting to note how the Arab world is reacting to the sex-scandal
surrounding President Clinton. According to Syria's Defense Minister, Monica
Lewinski is an agent for the Mossad (Israeli Intelligence Agency) whose
mission is to discredit President Clinton. The official Palestinian newspaper,
however, asserts she is connected with various Jewish lobby groups in America
who "blackmail American Presidents." Finally, the Iraqi newspaper,
Babel, declares "The Zionist game has become clear." The
article goes on to explain how Monica is part of an Israeli plan to replace
Clinton with Al Gore, because he is supposedly more pro-Israel.
Fortunately, all the speculation can now be put to rest because Hillary
Clinton has, once more, spoken out on the issue. According to the First
Lady, the scandal is the handiwork of a group of people who, for one reason
or another, are biased against the state of Arkansas.
